Discover an all-in-one solution for pristine fiber connections with the Black Box Fiber Optic Starter Cleaning Kit. This seven-tool ensemble, neatly packed in a durable nylon bag, is designed for field service, lab work, and any environment that demands reliable, contamination-free endface cleaning. By combining both wet and dry, lint-free cleaning capabilities with a static-reducing cassette, this kit minimizes the risk of dust returning to the fiber after cleaning and addresses the leading cause of link failures: contaminated endfaces. Whether you’re preparing for a critical link or routine maintenance, this starter kit delivers repeatable performance, speed, and convenience in a compact, portable package.

  • Seven handy tools in a compact nylon bag — All essential cleaning tools are organized in a durable nylon case, ready for rapid deployment on the bench or in the field. The bag’s rugged construction protects components during transport and keeps small parts from getting misplaced, so you can trust that you have everything you need at hand.
  • Cleaning cassette minimizes static charge — The kit includes a cleaning cassette designed to minimize static buildup, reducing the chance that dust and particles are re-attracted to the fiber endfaces after cleaning. This feature is particularly important when working in environments with low humidity or high particulate load, where static can hinder effective cleaning.
  • Wet and dry, lint-free cleaning process — Whether you need a gentle dry wipe for light debris or a thorough wet cleaning for stubborn contaminants, this kit supports a lint-free process that protects delicate endfaces while delivering fast, residue-free results.
  • Targets endface contamination—the #1 cause of link failure — By focusing on thorough endface cleaning, the kit tackles the leading source of network downtime: contamination on connector surfaces. Regular use helps reduce refires and performance degradation caused by dust, oil, or film on endfaces.
  • Designed for reliability and repeatable results — High-quality components and a simple, consistent workflow minimize variability between cleanings, helping technicians achieve repeatable, dependable outcomes regardless of experience level.

How to Install Black Box Fiber Optic Starter Cleaning Kit

  1. Open the nylon bag and lay out all seven tools in a clean, dust-free workspace. Inspect each item for signs of wear or damage before use.
  2. Identify the appropriate cleaning method for your connector type. For routine maintenance, start with the dry cleaning tool to remove loose dust and debris from the endfaces and connectors.
  3. Proceed with a wet cleaning step if the endfaces show stubborn contaminants or oils. Apply the cleaning cassette media according to the kit’s instructions, ensuring even coverage across the endface.
  4. Following wet cleaning, use the lint-free dry method to remove any remaining liquid residues and to promote a pristine, film-free surface on the endfaces.
  5. Inspect the endfaces using an appropriate connector viewing method or microscope to confirm a clean, defect-free surface before reassembly or mating.
  6. Return all components to the nylon bag after use, and store in a cool, dry place to preserve media integrity and tool performance for your next cleaning cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: What exactly is included in the seven tools? A: The kit comprises a comprehensive set of cleaning implements designed for fiber optic endface maintenance, along with a cleaning cassette and a durable nylon bag for portability and organization. Each tool is chosen to facilitate a complete on-site cleaning workflow—from dust removal to residue elimination.
  • Q: Is this kit suitable for field service? A: Yes. Its compact nylon bag and seven-tool configuration are optimized for field use, allowing technicians to perform fast, reliable endface cleaning anywhere a network device is located.
  • Q: How does the static-reducing cassette help? A: The cassette minimizes static buildup during cleaning, which reduces the likelihood that dust will be attracted back to the freshly cleaned endface. This helps maintain a contamination-free surface between maintenance sessions.
  • Q: Can I use this kit for both wet and dry cleaning? A: Absolutely. The kit is designed to support a two-step process (dry cleaning for dust removal, followed by a wet cleaning step for oils, films, and stubborn contaminants), then a final dry pass to ensure a pristine finish.
  • Q: Is the kit compatible with all fiber optic connector types? A: The kit is intended for general fiber optic endface cleaning and is compatible with common connector types used in standard single-mode and multi-mode networks. For specialized or nonstandard connectors, consult your organization’s Cleaning Protocols.
  • Q: How often should the components be replaced? A: Cleaning media and tools should be inspected before each use and replaced when signs of wear, contamination, or diminished cleaning performance are evident. Regular maintenance of the kit ensures consistent, reliable results over time.

Strong legs, somewhat industrial but trendy also
Size: side table leg
Good legs, some what utilitarian or industrial, they are strong as they are made out of pipe, and assembly is fairly easy once you get the idea of how it goes together. They are roughly 1.5 feet across maybe a bit less adjustable height on each leg, if you have wood floors you may want to put a pad under each leg as they are full metal pipes. Pretty interesting idea and does not cost much.

Pretty good, take your time and install it well
Size: side table leg
Materials are pretty solid, but once assembled it’s not as sturdy as you would think it should be since the material itself was solid, i say give them a chance, everything out there that’s similar is way over priced

Robust pipe & fittings with a beautiful, smooth black finish
Size: side table leg
This set of pipe & fittings for use as low table legs is heavy duty and aesthetically pleasing. Especially when the pieces are handled, the tactile sensation is much nicer than with plumbing steel pipe because this product is beautifully finished smooth. The black pipes are quite smooth as well as the fittings. The pieces are all also pretty robust, though the wall thicknesses are less than in pipe for pressurized water systems. Of course that makes sense as this product does not need to hold fluid pressure. In my view they got the heaviness factor of this product just right; it's not as heavy or robust as black pipe used in natural gas supplies, but still robust and pretty heavy. Assembled, this product is absolutely stiff and unyielding for a solid table that could hold a man's weight easily. The feet utilize a brilliant scheme so that each foot can be independently adjusted for an uneven floor. Thus a level table on an uneven floor is easily accomplished. The feet simply extend the effective leg length by screwing counter-clockwise. To prevent any shifting at the threads adding some pipe compound or teflon tape may be advised. Even masking or duct tape might work as the idea is to just fill any gaps where male threads meet female threads. The four flanges at the tops of the legs provide a wide, solid surface for attaching the table top, with either hidden screws underneath or you could through-bolt a glass table top (provided you have the skill to drill glass!). I think this product would look great with a glass top. Assembly is quick and easy. The hardest part is drilling holes underneath the table top to accept screws. No pipe wrenches are needed as the pieces screw together by hand to an adequate tightness. If any doubt whether they are tightened enough have a strong person with grippy gloves finish. The "X" in the center attaches to the legs with a very clever machine screw system tightened with the included hex wrench. This is presumably because if tightened simply by screwing the fittings, the point of snugness would not likely be where the "T" fittings are exactly vertical. The maker has solved this problem so that you are assured that all legs will be in the perfect vertical position once everything is tight. The setup is also nice and rigid once tightened. This is a huge benefit of steel pipe projects; they are really solid. The black finish is clearly very durable, like a powder coat. It appears that it will provide excellent protection against rust. Coverage is complete; I found no dings or scratches anywhere on any piece. Overall this is a very well-designed product for function and aesthetics. Perfect for a beautifully renovated warehouse condo where an industrial vibe is desired in a rock-solid table that won't shift around. The smoothness of the pipe is top notch. I've used lots of pipe in projects, some of it actual water pipe and some decorative pipe such as this. I've never seen better quality decorative pipe as this maker put in the effort to finish it beautifully smooth. At currently $34.99 I find the price quite reasonable too.
